This week marked the beginning of the Senate Confirmation Hearings for the Supreme Court seat, previously held by Justice Anthony Kennedy. Judge Brett Kavanaugh was nominated by President Trump in early July 2018 for the seat. The last step before he can take the seat is to be confirmed by the United States Senate. The hearings have already been littered with protests from people on the left, but especially from women who claim they are protesting on behalf of all American women. The women protesting are not representative of the entire population, however and not all American women are against Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation. I sought out women from across the country and asked them why they want their representatives to vote yes and confirm Judge Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court.
Taylor, Jacksonville, Florida
"Throughout his extensive career, Brett Kavanaugh has demonstrated his legal expertise and unwavering support for upholding the principles encapsulated within our nation’s Constitution. From clerking for two appeals court judges and retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy, to serving as a phenomenal circuit judge for the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, I have no doubt that, if appointed, Kavanaugh will be an exceptional addition to our nation’s highest court.”
Kyasia, La Grange, Georgia
“I want Kavanaugh confirmed because I want someone who will interpret the law as it was written while also protecting my rights as an American citizen. He will put Americans, even those in the womb, first and that is what we need.”
Brittany, Atlanta, Georgia
“Across the aisle, Judge Kavanaugh is highly respected and admired. His experience and qualifications are indisputable. His understanding and defense of the constitution is what will make him a great Supreme Court Judge. The left resorts to emotional tantrums and outbursts because they have no tangible reasoning for their dislike of him. As a pro-life conservative, I am proud to support the nomination of Judge Kavanaugh and look forward to his confirmation.”
Laynee, Chicago, Illinois
"I would like Congress to #ConfirmKavanaugh because he is a qualified jurist that believes in upholding our Constitution at a time where others look to alter it or misconstrue it. He looks to interpret the law under the Judicial Branch’s powers and not overstep authority."
Sarah James, Danville, Kentucky
“Brett Kavanaugh ultimately understands how our Constitution should be interpreted in the digital age. From net neutrality to 4th amendment decisions regarding privacy on our devices, he has interpreted, both from a judicial and a technical standpoint, how the Constitution translates into modern life. He’s an excellent pick for the Supreme Court because he’s ahead of the game on tech issues.”
Cameron, Fort Benning, Georgia
“I want Congress to #ConfirmKavanaugh because as a young woman, his history in supporting our second amendment rights and the Constitution in its entirety is something we need back in our Supreme Court.”
Danielle, Northern California
“I want Kavanaugh confirmed because he doesn’t heavily lean to one side or the other. From what I’ve read, he appears to make decisions based on what the law says rather than aiming to please one side or the other. That’s a huge selling point for me since I firmly believe the courts should be impartial in all of their decisions.”
Abigail, Portland, Maine
“I want Congress to #ConfirmKavanaugh because we need pro-life justices to overturn Roe vs. Wade, so that all those little ones without a voice may have a chance at life.”
Danielle, Dahlonega, Georgia
“I support Kavanaugh’s confirmation because I believe he will follow the true meaning of the Constitution—understanding that his opinion does not alter the words written.”
Caroline, North Carolina
“Judge Kavanaugh is one of the most qualified judges we have seen presented to be on this bench. The only opposition he has is coming from people who don’t understand that he doesn’t have the power to change the laws. Brett Kavanaugh is wholesome, passionate, and articulate. The witch hunt that we witnessed during his opening hearing by the Senate Committee was a Democrat-led targeted attack on the procedure to thwart the committee continuing until that failed, then the Democrats continually attacked Kavanaugh simply because Trump put him there. I’m grateful for the sacrifice Brett Kavanaugh has made, his family has made, and his sanity has made to go through with this whole process.”
Katie, Athens, Alabama
“A Supreme Court nominee is not something to be considered lightly. There are so many things to consider but ultimately it should be a person who upholds the Constitution before all things and does not fall prey to petty partisan squabbles that are beneath the dignity of the highest court in the land. As a young conservative woman who is a strict constitutionalist, Judge Kavanaugh meets the requirements necessary to have my support. Judge Kavanaugh’s rulings on cases like Archdiocese of Washington v WMATA, Priests for Life v HHS, Garza v Hargan and U.S Telecom Ass’n v FCC are just some examples of his impartiality as a judge, as well as his commitment to interpret the Constitution as written and refusal to legislate from the bench. His record speaks for itself which is why I emphatically give him my support.”
Elizabeth, Lexington, Virginia
I think Kavanaugh should be confirmed because he is a strong constitutionalist and has proven time and time again he is more than qualified for this position through his experience as a judge on the DC circuit. He believes in precedent, understands the importance of the constitution, and makes decisions based on the constitutionality of the policy in question. As Lindsay Graham said [Wednesday] during his hearing, a conservative president should be expected to nominate a judge who rules similarly to how he would, just as a liberal president would be expected to nominate a liberal judge.”
Happy Confirmation Hearings!
