TUSCALOOSA--Free flu shots were given on campus at the University of Alabama between September 11th and September 22nd to students and faculty.

Third and fourth semester nursing students at the University of Alabama hosted a health fair on campus to promote leading healthy lifestyles while in college. The health fair rotated in location between the Ferguson Student Center and Tutwiler Residence Hall. Included in the fair was the option to receive a flu vaccination from a practicing nursing student. Students who chose to get their flu shot also received a sticker that read “I remembered to get my flu shot!” as a small incentive.

Some students in attendance felt that the flu shot is unnecessary but Audrey Tallis, a senior at The University of Alabama and a third semester nursing student feels otherwise. “It will always better to get your flu shot than to not get it and risk getting sick for weeks of class. [Nursing students are] helping the Tuscaloosa community and the UA campus stay well during flu season and overall become a healthier place to live and learn. It’s also good experience for us before we become real registered nurses” Tallis said. If you still need to get your flu shot, the nursing students will still be giving them from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Capstone School of Nursing for the remainder of the week.
